1)Advantages for Ultrasonic machining
Ultrasonic machining is a different from traditional machining process because it can produce high accuracy parts with brittle materials which are difficult to be machined by traditional machining method. Besides, fragile materials such as glass and non-conductive metals that can not be machined as well through Ultrasonic machining.Ultrasonic machining is able to produce high precision machining parts because there is no distortion of the raw material.Ultrasonic vibration machining allows extremely complex and non-uniform shapes to be cut into the high precision machining parts.Moreover, fewer operations are required to produce a finished part because no burrs are created during the Ultrasonic machining process.
2)Disadvantages for Ultrasonic machining
As it is driven by microchipping or erosion mechanisms for ultrasonic vibration machining,the material removal rate of metals can be slow and the sonotrode tip can wear down quickly from the constant impact of abrasive particles on the tool. And it is difficult to drill deep holes in parts as well, because the abrasive slurry will not effectively reach the bottom of the hole. Furthermore, ultrasonic vibration machining can only be used on materials with a hardness at least 45 HRC.
